10 Questions you have to ask before booking ANY bridal makeup artist

Before you book your bridal makeup artist you have to check - did you ask those 10 important questions?

  1. What is their style? Do they have a portfolio? This is crucial. Don’t just take your friend’s word or rely on a Facebook recommendation without checking the artist’s style to see if you like it. Makeup is a lot like cooking—every chef has their own recipe, and bridal makeup can be done in countless ways. Do you like what you see?

  2. What is included in the price? Does it include my bridesmaids? Does it include the deposit? The artist should have clear and understandable pricing. Make sure this includes travel and that there are no hidden costs. I advertise my prices on my website to ensure they are as clear as possible for my clients.

  3. Do you offer a trial? Is it mandatory? I encourage my clients to have a trial but never make it a condition for booking. I understand that not everyone needs it if they already have a vision of what they want. However, I ALWAYS offer video consultations and unlimited communication leading up to the wedding.

  4. What is the booking process? Please note that the date is NOT reserved for you until the deposit is paid.

5. What happens on the day? Do they stay with you until you are in your dress? Will they be available for touch-ups? I will always stay with you until you are in your dress and ready to start your photos. I always leave time to do touch-ups on the bridesmaids at the end.

6. What do you take with you? Do they offer a touch-up kit? I provide my brides with their lipstick and a small touch-up kit, with clear instructions on what they should do on the day.

7. Are lashes included? What kind? I always include lashes for the bride and all the bridal party members. I use individual lashes to create a personalized look—no one size fits all!

8. How personal is the service? Do you feel you are communicating with a real human or just a wedding bot? Do you get personalized communication or feel like you are just a number?

9. Are they connected? I’m just the makeup artist, but I can happily open my address book for you and refer you to a hairstylist and help you find any service, from facials to laser treatments to teeth whitening.

10. Do they offer coverage in case they can’t make it? Thank heavens, I have never missed a wedding, but I always ensure I have a backup in case something happens.
